SENIOR THESIS

Thesis Statement:

My name is Suzy, I am obtaining a major in Graphic Design and General Fine Arts at Spalding University, and the main focus within my pieces are about typography. Upon reading or viewing the pieces, I invite participants to experience the emotion, to think about the metaphors, and to notice themselves perceiving. 

I advocate for Narcissistic Abuse awareness. Following an end to a 5 year abusive relationship and a troubled dating scene, I was inspired to execute this attempt to advocate. Throughout recovering from abuse that hurt me emotionally, mentally, sexually, and violently, I began to find myself. Using art to my advantage became an outlet and helped me gain the confidence to share my story. The most current works consist of a series of poetry writings that metaphorically describe the trauma I went through. They help to explain how Narcissism is different from Domestic Abuse. 

Poetry has allowed me to guide myself and open my mind to new insights. I become more self-aware, with each writing. The few visual pieces I have run on an idea of a positive present or future versus a negative past. They often  depict a release of anger about the past, rather than succumbing to self-teaching and increase of self-awareness.
